Career Development Workshop July 27th: A look at Resume Building

On Monday, July 27, SOM hosted a Career Development Workshop which was focused on Resume-Building. Despite all the different ways resumes can be built and created, there are fundamental content that needs to be presented in a resume. The workshop covered the fundamentals of a resume, strategies for resume design and content summaries to get though Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and overall resume advice.

The workshop looked at different case examples for the professional summary section in order to make the resume more human. Students were encouraged to keep information clear, concise, and consistent in the Professional Work Experience section and to keep a clean format for their Education section. For the Professional Development section, they were also asked to “show” more of their hard and soft skills instead of just “telling” what skills they have.

Overall, SOM is invested in their students to have the right career tools and industry knowledge to venture out into their career paths after they graduate and we hope that the workshop was beneficial to all participants.
