At the School of Management (SOM), we are proud to showcase a diverse and exceptional group of instructors who come from all corners of the globe. Our faculty members travel from different countries including Australia, Finland, South Africa, Canada, India and Hong Kong to name a few, to share their expertise, global perspectives and dynamic teaching methods to our students.

The last weekend of the January term featured simultaneous hybrid sessions on Data Mining, Analysis, and Predictive Analytics in Business, led by Dr. Navid Aghakhani, and Negotiations and Pressurized Decision-Making, with Mr. Neil Doncaster and Mr. Peter Nixon.

Dr. Aghakhani, who travelled all the way from the US, provided a comprehensive introduction to data mining using Tableau and Knime, taught students how to analyze and visualize complex datasets. The participants developed skill sets to identify patterns, trends, and insights to inform data-driven decisions. He facilitated hands-on experience with machine learning, building predictive models, and presenting insights through clear, effective visualizations.

Mr. Doncaster, who flew in from the UK, offered an intense learning experience, challenging students to take on decision-making roles in high-pressure scenarios, sharpening their skills under pressure. Through simulations, students were pushed to think critically, make quick decisions, and manage stress effectively. Meanwhile, Mr. Nixon, teaching from Hong Kong, guided students in negotiation tactics, empowering them to apply these strategies in real-life situations. His approach focused on practical applications, helping students build confidence in their ability to negotiate effectively, even in challenging environments.

Our faculty, whether teaching from across the world or connecting remotely, enrich the educational experience at SOM. The opportunity to learn from these professionals highlights our commitment to providing quality education to our students, preparing them for leadership in a highly competitive landscape.

Dr. Navid Aghakhani is an Associate Professor of Data Analytics at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Neil Doncaster serves as the CEO of the Scottish Professional Football League, and Peter Nixon is an international expert in strategy, dialogue, and The Negotiation of Change.
