AIT School of Management Conducts Four Preparatory Workshops Ahead of Doctoral Colloquium 2025

Throughout September 2025, the School of Management (SOM) at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) conducted a series of four intensive workshops to support doctoral students in anticipation of the Doctoral Colloquium 2025, schedules for 11 October 2025. Designed and lead by Dr. Muhammad Junaid, Faculty Director of the PhD Program, the workshops aimed to strengthen the research and academic writing capabilities of both PhD and DBA students, preparing them not only for the colloquium but also for broader research-related pursuits such as dissertations and journal publications.

Held on 7, 14, 21, and 28 September, the workshop series covered the following topics:

1. Identifying Research Gaps through Strategic Literature Reviews – This session focused on recognizing underexplored areas in existing literature using methods such as PRISMA and the TCCM framework, and guided students in structuring their literature reviews for academic impact.

2. Quantitative Methods: From Data Collection to Model Testing – Participants learned about hypothesis development, sampling techniques, questionnaire design, and advanced data analysis tools including SEM and CFA, Emphasis was placed on ensuring validity, reliability, and model fitness in quantitative research.

3. Writing the Analysis and Discussion Section – This session helped students differentiate between presenting results and interpreting them, using a Claim-Evidence-Reasoning framework. Participants practiced articulating theoretical and managerial contributions, making their discussion sections both insightful and impactful.

4. Navigating Journal Rankings and Selecting the Right Outlet – A hands-on session guiding students on identifying suitable journals for publication. Participants explored strategies to evaluate journal quality and alignment with their research scope using databases and ranking systems.

These workshops reinforced AIT SOM’s commitment to academic excellence and research readiness. By combining theoretical foundations with practical tools, the series empowered doctoral candidates to approach their research with clarity, structure, and scholarly precision. The workshops not only enriched the students’ research journey but also laid a strong foundation for meaning academic contributions.
